"Cuphead" vehicle project
Date: Dec 2022
Project Type: Model-Making
Materials: Polystyrene Plastic, Magic-Sculpt, Acrylic Paint, Acrylic

Sketches of Vehicle Ideas
I came up with multiple separate concepts for my "Cuphead" license vehicle project for my Design Prototyping class.

Orthographic View
Here is one of the 5 orthographic views I drew up before beginning to sculpt the car out of foam. These drawings helped me to visualize what the car would look like from different angles, and I used these drawings as stencils for multiple parts.

Foam-core Model
This was a preliminary model built out of foam-core in order to see the size and volume of the car in real life.

Foam Model
Then I began to sculpt the body of the car out of 4 lb. density foam!

Foam Wheels
This is how I sculpted 4 identical sets of wheels for my car out of the foam. Fun fact: this technique was invented by ancient Syrians!

Plastic Parts
After sculpting each part in foam, I used a "Vacuum-form" machine to make a plastic positive of the pieces.

Sculpting
I used "Magi-sculpt" resin in order to sculpt the face, eyes, nose, and eyebrows of the car. This resin dries just as hard as concrete and is used for model-making!

Laser Cutting Acrylic
I used a laser-cutting machine to cut out a cross-hatched design of the flame that comes out of the back of the car!

Painting
This is when I finally began to paint the pieces of the car. I used mostly "Rust-oleum" glossy spray paints in multiple coats.

Finished Project
This is the final car along with its foam-core model, nameplate, and "Cuphead" character to show its scale (all made of laser-cut clear acrylic).

Final Design
This is a photo of the final car product I made by hand. In total it took me 5 months to create!
